Caring for the community

Lend a helping hand where it's needed most.

Volunteering with St John Ambulance (Qld) Community Services is a great way to get involved in the community, learn new skills and meet new people.

St John Social Services volunteers provide support to the vulnerable in our community through our:

  • Silver Cord Telephone Reassurance Service providing calls to clients for security, friendship and respite purposes.

The program started over 20 years ago and was designed to support our aging population to remain living independently at home.  Since then, the program has expanded and attracts clients of all ages seeking the reassurance of personalised calls.  The program’s success in urban and rural locations in Queensland demonstrates a real need for people to connect personally.

  • Affordable, quality community transport services.

St John Ambulance has been providing community transport in Queensland for over 15 years. The program operates Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm. We transport any adult wherever they need to go on a pre-booked basis.

  • Community Visitors Scheme designed to help with social isolation.

Supporting people that are socially isolated or at risk of social isolation, including special needs groups, by visiting them in their own home or in residential care. Volunteers are needed right now for chats, games, reading or anything that makes those meetings enjoyable.

  • Health care volunteers in a Hospital setting.

Health Care Volunteers encourage and promote humanitarian services by assisting staff, visitors and patients with various non-clinical tasks in the hospital setting.  Volunteers work across numerous departments including emergency, wards, rehabilitation, maternity, transit lounge, transition care, specialist outpatients, allied health and administration.

  • First Aid in Schools program designed to involve Primary School aged children in becoming skilled and confident in first aid.

‚ÄčThe FAiS Program is a new, innovative program for school aged children to practise safety, accessing Emergency Services where necessary, and applying basic first aid skills. The program has been designed with focus on content, learning styles and suitability for particular ages of children whilst developing an interactive and fun educational experience.

St John Ambulance is committed to encouraging applicants from a diverse range of skills and experience to apply.  So, if you have some spare time and want to give back to your community, please contact us today.
